چکیده
In offshore engineering design, nonlinear wave models are often used to propagate stochastic waves from an input boundary the location of structure. Each realization is typically characterized by a high-dimensional time-series, and reliable determination extreme events associated with substantial computational effort. As sea depth decreases, become more difficult evaluate. We here construct low-dimensional characterization candidate time series circumvent search for in probability space. represented unique set parameters which standard surrogate approximations, such as Gaussian processes, can estimate short-term exceedance efficiently accurately. demonstrate advantages new approach simple shallow-water model based on Korteweg–de Vries equation we provide accurate reference solution Monte Carlo method. furthermore apply method fully propagation over sloping seabed. The results that process learn accurately tail heavy-tailed distribution maximum crest elevation only $$1.7\%$$ required evaluations.

Extreme Wave Loading on Offshore Wave Energy Devices using CFD
Two commercial Navier-Stokes solvers are applied to wave-wave and wave-structure interaction problems leading to the final application of simulating a single float of the wave energy converter (WEC) Manchester Bobber in extreme waves and a fixed section of the Pelamis in regular waves. First the two software packages CFX and STAR CCM+ are validated against measured results from physical tank te...
متن کاملQuantification and prediction of extreme events in a one-dimensional nonlinear dispersive wave model
The aim of this work is the quantification and prediction of rare events characterized by extreme intensity in nonlinear waves with broad spectra. We consider a one-dimensional nonlinear model with deepwater waves dispersion relation, theMajda–McLaughlin–Tabak (MMT)model, in a dynamical regime that is characterized by a broadband spectrum and strong nonlinear energy transfers during the develop...
متن کاملEXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION OF OFFSHORE WAVE BUOY PERFORMANCE
The important characteristic of sea waves is their high energy density, which is the highest among renewable energy sources. Having up to 2700 km. of shoreline, Iran has a great potential in construction of offshore wave buoys (hereafter called OWB). In this article a OWB model with the possibility of assembling different buoy configurations is introduced. The system is exposed to regular and i...
متن کاملWave propagation theory in offshore applications
A frequency-wavenumber-domain formulation is presented in this paper for calculation of the Green's functions and wave propagation modes in a stratified fluid body underlain by a layered viscoelastic soil medium. The Green's functions define the solid and fluid displacements and fluid pressures due to uniform disk loads acting in either the soil or fluid media. The solution is in the frequency ...
متن کاملExtreme anisotropy of wave propagation in two-dimensional photonic crystals.
We demonstrate that electromagnetic waves propagating in square and hexagonal photonic crystals can have fundamentally different anisotropy properties. The wave frequency and group velocity can be functions of the propagation direction even for vanishingly small wave numbers (near the gamma-point). This anisotropy, present in square but absent in hexagonal lattices, can be so extreme that the g...
